To protect the living treasure of coral genetic diversity, Mote has created a unique, large-scale, land-based, living coral genetic bank where dozens of coral genotypes (genetic varieties) of all coral species can be stored in triplicate.

The Shedd Aquarium is part of an international research team delving into ways to boost coral thermal tolerance, accelerate adaptive processes and restore reefs with climate-resilient corals.

The Florida Aquarium’s Coral Conservation Program is effectively addressing the coral crisis by focusing on strategies designed to protect species that are approaching or are at risk of extinction in the wild, increase coral reproduction rates, advance coral health and restore the Florida Reef Tract.

These partnerships allow us to share expertise, expand impact, and ensure long-term conservation success in the Gulf.

The Greensboro Science Center works with field biologists to support the care and maintenance of coral nurseries in the Florida Keys.
